Scales of Vulcatrix is the monster-focused Fyreslayers formation, improving the survivability of your Magmadroths (added health/wounds). It suits lists that treat the Magmadroth as a centrepiece anchor and objective-grabber. Confirm the exact value in the current faction pack, as monster durability numbers have been adjusted by Battlescrolls.

What the formation does

It increases the durability of your Magmadroth units, letting them stay on the table longer, keep their damage output up (Magmadroth output can scale with remaining health), and hold objectives through more punishment.

Who it suits

Players who want a monster-mash centrepiece and enjoy a durable anchor rather than a swarm of infantry. It pairs the toughness of the army with big, board-controlling threats.

Key units

  • Magmadroths (with various riders β€” Runefather, Runeson, Runesmiter) β€” the whole point of the formation.
  • Auric Runemaster β€” Fiery Determination ward plus priest support stacks with the added health for extreme durability.
  • Vulkite Berzerkers β€” screens to keep enemies off your monsters until you choose to engage.

When to pick it

Pick it when your list runs one or more Magmadroths as its core, especially into armies with lots of mid-strength damage that the extra health helps you shrug off. Less useful in a pure-infantry list.

Common questions

Is one Magmadroth enough to justify this formation?

It can be, but the formation pays off most with multiple Magmadroths or a single one you intend to build your whole plan around. With no monsters it does nothing for you.

Does the durability bonus stack with the defensive rune?

Yes β€” added health plus the Rune of Fiery Determination ward and priest buffs can make a Magmadroth extremely hard to remove. Confirm current values in the faction pack.
