Daemonsmith Cabal leans into the army's wizards and priests, and it was widely flagged in 2025 reviews as the standout formation. As with every Helsmith formation, the bonus only comes online when the relevant units hold the full 3 Daemonic Power Points, so verify current wording and values against your battletome and the latest Battlescroll.

What the formation does

Reported effect: maxed Wizards and Priests (3 DPP) gain +1 to casting, unbinding, banishment and chanting rolls. Stacked on top of an already strong caster like Urak Taar, this produces very reliable spells and manifestation control. Confirm exact rolls affected against current rules.

Who it suits

Players who enjoy a magic-forward, control-oriented game plan and want their heroes, rather than their guns or bulls, to be the engine. It rewards protecting your casters and keeping them topped up with points.

Key units

  • Urak Taar, the First Daemonsmith - the flagship caster and support piece
  • Daemonsmith (foot and Infernal Taurus versions) - your workhorse wizards
  • Supporting priests using the Prayers of the Scorched Sect
  • Manifestations from the army's spell/prayer lores

When to pick it

Pick it when your list is built around one or more strong casters and you plan to keep them at 3 DPP most turns. Less ideal if your list is gun- or cavalry-heavy and your heroes are only there for buffs.

Common questions

Do the bonuses work if my caster doesn't have full power?

No. Like all Helsmith formations, the benefit triggers only while the unit holds the full 3 Daemonic Power Points, so allocation discipline matters. Check current wording for the exact threshold.

Is this the best formation overall?

Launch coverage rated it the strongest, but 'best' depends on your list and the current season. If you aren't caster-heavy, a gun or cavalry formation will serve you better. Verify against the latest Battlescroll.
