The Shadowstrike Starhost is the Skink-speed archetype, granting extra movement and agility (Nimble and Quick) to your Skink units. It suits players who want to win by controlling the board, screening, and out-tempoing the opponent rather than trading blows. Confirm the current ability text in your faction pack, as mobility effects are frequent Battlescroll targets.

What the formation does

It boosts the movement and mobility of your Skink units, making an already-fast part of the roster even harder to pin down. This translates into better objective control, screening, and the ability to strike where the enemy is weakest. Verify the exact movement bonus and which units qualify on your current warscroll.

Who it suits

Players who enjoy a mobile, tricky, tempo-based game and are comfortable playing the objectives rather than the kill count. It rewards precise movement and knowing when to commit and when to retreat.

Key units

  • Skinks (foot and mounted) as the mobile core
  • Terradon, Ripperdactyl, and Raptadon riders / Hunters of Huanchi for fast strikes and objective grabs
  • A Skink Starseer or Starpriest for support casting on the move
  • A monster or two to give the fast list some staying power

When to pick it

Choose it in objective-focused missions, against slower armies you can kite, or whenever you want to dictate tempo. Avoid it if you'd rather anchor and grind - a Skink-speed list can feel fragile if forced into stand-up fights.

Common questions

Are Skink-speed lists fragile?

They can be - Skinks trade mobility for durability, so the plan relies on winning through position and objectives rather than melee attrition. Pairing the formation with a couple of tough monsters helps cover that weakness. Adjust to current points and matchups.

Is Shadowstrike good for beginners?

It's rewarding but demands good movement discipline and objective awareness, which takes practice. Newer players often start with a melee or monster formation and try Shadowstrike once they're confident manoeuvring.
