Thunderhead Host is the infantry battle-line battle formation for Stormcast Eternals in Age of Sigmar 4th edition. It's the most forgiving Stormcast build: keep your chambers working together and your core troops hit harder.

The formation ability is Synchronised Strikes. Friendly Warrior Chamber units add 1 to hit rolls for their combat attacks while they are wholly within 12" of a friendly Stormcast unit that is not a Hero, not a Beast, and not itself Warrior Chamber. The whole point is a combined-arms line: your Liberators and Vindictors get better when a different chamber is standing with them, so you are rewarded for a balanced list rather than spamming one unit.
This is the mistake that costs games. The enabling unit must not be a Hero, so parking a Lord-Imperatant next to your Liberators does nothing for Synchronised Strikes. It also cannot be a Beast, which rules out Gryph-hounds. You need an actual non-Warrior-Chamber unit: a Vanguard Chamber body, an Extremis Chamber unit, or a Ruination Chamber block.
The second half of the trap is the range. "Wholly within 12\"" means every model in the Warrior Chamber unit has to be inside that bubble. A long conga-line of Liberators trailing off an objective loses the bonus for the whole unit, not just the stragglers.
Players who want a solid, board-controlling infantry force with a reliable combat buff: the classic "wall of Stormcast" that holds objectives and grinds. It leans into the army's durability and support-each-other identity, and it's the easiest formation to pilot well.
Pick Thunderhead Host when your list is infantry-forward and balanced and you want a dependable combat edge across your battle-line rather than a single alpha threat. It's the best starting point for new Stormcast players and a strong all-comers choice; specialise into Lightning Echelon or Vanguard Wing only when you're building around dragons or fast cavalry.
Its ability is Synchronised Strikes: Warrior Chamber units add 1 to hit rolls for combat attacks while wholly within 12 inches of a friendly Stormcast unit that is not a Hero, not a Beast, and not Warrior Chamber. It rewards a supported, combined-arms infantry line.
No. The enabling unit must not be a Hero and must not be a Beast, so a nearby Lord-Imperatant or Gryph-hounds will not turn the bonus on. You need a non-Warrior-Chamber unit such as a Vanguard, Extremis or Ruination Chamber unit within 12 inches.
Yes β it's the most forgiving Stormcast formation. It buffs your core troops for simply playing the army the way it wants (units supporting each other) and doesn't require a specialised roster.
