Is Sacred Champions plus Champions of Faith legal?

We do not know, and we will not guess. The Faction Pack version 1.2 gives Sacred Champions the REVEREND tag and says it cannot be taken with another REVEREND detachment, but prints no tag at all on Champions of Faith. The Munitorum Field Manual version 1.3 does list Champions of Faith with REVEREND. Two official documents disagree, so we assert the tag and not the restriction. Check the Warhammer 40,000 app before building this list.

Why does this pairing get a warning page?

Because everything about list-building points you toward it. Sacred Champions is 1 Detachment Point and Champions of Faith is 2, so together they exactly fill a 3 DP Strike Force budget with nothing wasted. Both are elite-champion themed, and both have rules and stratagems specifically about Celestian Sacresants, so a Sacresant player reads both pages and wants both detachments. The trap runs in the direction of building an army that may be illegal rather than ruling out a legal one.

What should I take instead?

Any other combination that fits your budget, because no other Adepta Sororitas detachment carries a tag. With Sacred Champions, pair Bringers of Flame, Army of Faith or Penitent Host at 2 DP. With Champions of Faith, pair Chorus of Condemnation or Sanctified Orators at 1 DP. Or take Chorus of Condemnation plus Sacred Champions plus Sanctified Orators for exactly 3 DP, which is legal.

Can I take two detachments if only one of them has a Unique Tag?

Yes. A Unique Tag only prevents you taking two detachments that share the same tag. Carrying a tag is not the same as sharing one. Sacred Champions carries REVEREND and can be freely paired with Chorus of Condemnation, Sanctified Orators, Bringers of Flame, Army of Faith or Penitent Host, none of which carry any tag.

If you want to avoid the question entirely, every one of these is unambiguously legal, because no other Adepta Sororitas detachment carries any tag at all.

Keep Sacred Champions (1 DP) and change the core:

[Army of Faith](/40k/armies/adepta-sororitas/detachments/army-of-faith) (2 DP). A Sacresant block that can substitute a wound roll and a save roll in the same combat.
[Penitent Host](/40k/armies/adepta-sororitas/detachments/penitent-host) (2 DP). A second melee threat with zero keyword overlap.

Keep Champions of Faith (2 DP) and change the specialist:

[Chorus of Condemnation](/40k/armies/adepta-sororitas/detachments/chorus-of-condemnation) (1 DP). Carries no tag, so this pairing is clean.
[Sanctified Orators](/40k/armies/adepta-sororitas/detachments/sanctified-orators) (1 DP). Carries no tag, and gets you a free extra enhancement on a detachment that already has four worth wanting.

Or take three cheap detachments and keep your Sacresants:

Chorus of Condemnation plus Sacred Champions plus Sanctified Orators is 3 DP and is LEGAL. This is the inverse mistake, and it is worth stating because players rule it out by reflex: one of the three does carry a tag. That is fine. A Unique Tag only stops you taking two detachments that share it, and neither of the other two carries any tag at all.

Carrying a tag is not the same as sharing one. That single sentence resolves most Adepta Sororitas list-building questions, including this one.
