Lords of Dread: The 11th-Edition Chaos Knights Objective Control Detachment

Improve the Objective Control characteristic of Chaos Knights CHARACTER models from your army by 2. In addition, once per battle round, if your WARLORD is on the battlefield, you can use the Claimed for the Dark Gods stratagem for 0CP.

Check the keyword before you dismiss the first clause as narrow. Chaos Knights Titanic datasheets that carry CHARACTER include the Knight Abominant, Desecrator, Despoiler, Rampager, Ruinator and Tyrant, plus all six Chaos Cerastus and Chaos Questoris Imperial Armour Knights. In a typical Chaos Knights list the rule is close to army-wide, which is not how it reads.

The second clause is a Command Point engine. One free use of a specific stratagem per battle round, gated only on your Warlord being alive, is worth roughly a Command Point a round in a faction that has few models and therefore few other things to spend on. The pack amends that stratagem's timing, which is why the next section exists.

TAKE AND HOLD as a force disposition is consistent: this detachment is trying to win on objectives, and +2 Objective Control on models that already have high Objective Control is how it does it.

Claimed for the Dark Gods. The pack changes its When section to: start of your Command phase.

That amended timing is first-party, and it matters more here than a timing change usually would, because the detachment rule hands you one free use of this exact stratagem per battle round. Knowing precisely when the window opens is the difference between using the free one and losing it. The effect text is not printed in the pack.

Mirror of Fates. The pack rewrites this enhancement in full, so the text below is first-party: CHAOS KNIGHTS model only. Once per turn, when your opponent targets a unit from their army within 12 inches of this model with a stratagem, you can use this ability. If you do, increase the CP cost of that use of that stratagem by 1CP.

A tax on your opponent's stratagems inside a 12 inch bubble, once per turn, for 30 points. That is an unusual effect to find at that price, and it pairs oddly well with a detachment rule that is already generating you free Command Points: you are widening the gap in both directions.

Every other Chaos Knights detachment carries two or four enhancements. This one carries six, which is the largest enhancement list of any detachment across this whole programme so far. From the official Munitorum Field Manual v1.3, with Mirror of Fates carrying first-party rules text from the pack and the rest reprinted as costs only:

• Blade of Celerity, 35 points.
• Mirror of Fates, 30 points. Rules text above, rewritten by the pack in version 1.2.
• Putrid Carapace, 30 points.
• Warp-borne Stalker, 25 points.
• Throne Mechanicum of Skulls, 25 points.
• Blessing of the Dark Master, 20 points.

What six enhancements actually buys you is not six upgrades, since your army's enhancement allowance is limited in the usual way. It buys choice: a wider menu to fit into whatever allowance you have, at price points from 20 to 35 points, which is useful precisely because Chaos Knights lists have very few models to hang them on.

Enhancement points are dataslate-volatile and none of the six carries a change marker in this pass.

At 2 Detachment Points this leaves exactly 1 DP at Strike Force, and it carries no Unique Tag.
