Bastions of Tyranny: The 11th-Edition Chaos Knights Knight Tyrant Detachment

Friendly KNIGHT TYRANT units' attacks that target a battle-shocked unit have +1 to the hit roll.

That is the whole rule, and it has a condition that no other detachment rule in the faction has: the target must already be battle-shocked.

That condition is the point, not a drawback. The Chaos Knights army rule, Harbingers of Dread, spends the entire game making enemy units easier to battle-shock. Deathly Terror and Despair each worsen Leadership by 1 within 9 inches and stack. Dismay forces Battle-shock tests on units below their Starting Strength. Delirium punishes failures with D3 mortal wounds. Bastions of Tyranny is the detachment that converts that state into damage.

It reaches one datasheet. The Knight Tyrant. Everything below applies to it and nothing else in your army.

Rune-cursed Stronghold (1CP, any phase, when a friendly KNIGHT TYRANT unit suffers a mortal wound). That unit has Feel No Pain 5+ against mortal wounds. Mortal wounds route around Toughness and invulnerable saves alike, which is the standard efficient way to kill a Titanic model, and this is the cheapest insurance against the thing most likely to remove your only Knight Tyrant.

Pitiless Focus (1CP, your Movement phase, when a friendly KNIGHT TYRANT unit is selected to make a fall-back move). That move does not prevent the unit from being eligible to shoot. A Knight Tyrant tied up in melee would otherwise lose its entire Shooting phase to disengaging. This gives the turn back for a point.

Intimidating Reminder (1CP, your Shooting phase, when a friendly KNIGHT TYRANT unit has shot). Select one enemy unit hit by those attacks; it is suppressed until the start of your next Command phase, and while a unit is suppressed its attacks have minus 1 to hit rolls. This is the detachment's defensive stratagem delivered through offence, and it lasts across your opponent's whole turn rather than a single phase.

Hate-filled Dominion (20 points). KNIGHT TYRANT model only. This unit can re-roll rolls to determine the A of a weapon. The Knight Tyrant carries random-attack profiles, so this converts the disaster rolls into average ones. It is structurally identical to the Imperial Knights Archeotech Autoloaders and 5 points cheaper.

Pterrorshade Rookery (20 points). KNIGHT TYRANT model only. When this unit is selected to shoot, select one enemy unit within 24 inches; that unit has +6 inches detection range until this unit has shot.

Read the second one carefully, because it works the opposite way round to how it scans. It makes the target easier to detect; it does not directly buff your guns. Detection is a currency several Chaos Knights rules trade in, and this is the Bastions of Tyranny way in.

Enhancement points are dataslate-volatile; both values come from the Munitorum Field Manual v1.3 and neither carries a change marker in this pass.

At 1 Detachment Point this leaves 2 DP spare at Strike Force, and it needs them, because one enormous gun is not an army. Bastions of Tyranny carries no Unique Tag, so every pairing below is unambiguously legal and none is affected by the faction's unresolved tag question.

Plus [Traitoris Lance](/40k/armies/chaos-knights/detachments/traitoris-lance) (2 DP, total 3). The cleanest cause-and-effect pair in the faction. Annihilate the Unworthy needs battle-shocked targets; Traitoris Lance grants one additional chosen Dread ability at the start of the first battle round, and several Dread abilities either worsen Leadership or force Battle-shock tests. One detachment manufactures the condition the other is paid for.
