Hinterland Hunters is the battle formation for Ogor Mawtribes in , from (July 2026). It is the odd one out in an army that usually wants to run at you.
You pick exactly one battle formation for your army, so choosing this one means you do not take these.
SprueSentry strategy commentary, not official rules. The name is confirmed in the free Battle Profiles for this faction; the effect is summarised from a community rules mirror.
The formation ability is Prowling Predators, and it is passive. Subtract 1 from hit rolls for attacks that target friendly Ogor Mawtribes units while those units are wholly within 9 inches of a battlefield edge and have not charged this turn.
Note the geometry: a battlefield edge, not your deployment zone. The bonus follows the perimeter of the table, which includes the flanks and, in some deployments, ground much further forward than you would expect.
The condition is has not charged this turn, which means the ability turns itself off on exactly the turn an Ogor army normally wants to be doing its job. This is not a formation that makes your hammer tougher on the way in. It makes your holding units tougher while they sit.
The second half is wholly within. Every model has to be inside the 9 inch band, so a unit trailing off the edge line loses the protection for the whole unit, not just the strays.
Players who want to hold two objectives cheaply and win on points rather than on kills, or who expect a shooting-heavy opponent. It pairs naturally with the army's guns and its screening units, which want to stand still anyway.
Pick Hinterland Hunters when the mission set puts scoring near the edges, when you are bringing artillery and screens rather than a wall of monsters, or when you are up against an army that wins by shooting your few big models off the table. If your plan is to charge every turn, this formation will spend most of the game doing nothing.
It is passive: attacks targeting friendly Ogor Mawtribes units subtract 1 from their hit rolls while those units are wholly within 9 inches of a battlefield edge and have not charged this turn.
No. A unit that charged this turn does not get the protection, so the formation rewards units that hold ground rather than units that commit.
The condition is a battlefield edge, not specifically your deployment zone, so the band runs around the perimeter of the table. Confirm the exact wording in your battletome, since this effect is summarised from a community mirror rather than a free first-party download.
